Most people love the smell of coffee, some may love the taste and some maybe love eating and I’m not talking about raw coffee beans. I’m talking about coffee cake, coffee chocolate and coffee pastries. But when there is coffee there are also myths about them, that are probably not 100% true. Let’s see some of the common myths about coffee that you should not believe in.

2. Health

Coffee is bad for your health. Consuming a moderate amount of coffee is not bad for your health. At least 3 cups of coffee on a daily basis is just fine. Don’t go drinking more than that, then yes it will be bad for your health. If you have high blood pressure, try not to drink coffee as it could potentially temporarily raise your heart rate. Okay so maybe there is a little truth here.

4. Addiction

Caffeine is highly addictive. Okay, so there may be a little truth, but caffeine stimulates the central nervous system. Which then causes a slight addiction and the effect only lasts for about a day or two. So maybe turn down the coffee ya?

5. Dehydrates

Coffee dehydrates you. How? When you put coffee in the cup, what do you add-in? Water! The amount of H2o in that cup makes up for the dehydrating effects of caffeine.

7. Insomnia

An afternoon cup of coffee will cause insomnia. Caffeine is just a stimulant. Let’s say you have a cup of coffee around 12 pm, as liquid, it will pass thru your body through the liver at a face pace and around 75% of it will be flushed down the toilet within 4 to 6 hours. So in conclusion coffee doesn’t make you stay up late.

1. Growth

Have your parents ever told you not to drink coffee as it would stunt your growth? Well hate to break it to you, but the caffeine in the coffee will not stunt your growth. Not many know how this myth started but there is no such thing as coffee stunting your growth.

3. Weight

Coffee helps you lose weight. Yaaa…no, although caffeine can slightly increase your metabolism. However, it won’t make you lose weight. Caffeine would probably reduce your desire to eat for a bit. Again not enough to put a dent in your diet.

6. Temperature

One should use boiling water on the grounds. Apparently, if the temperature of the boiling water reaches above 93 celsius, the water will begin to extract bitter oils from the ground coffee that will give you a burnt taste of the coffee.

It can be hard to enjoy your cup of coffee, knowing all these rumours of coffee myths floating around haunting you and you just want to drink peacefully. There is even such a thing as “coffee makes you poop”. That’s actually true, never mind. There are more wives’ tales about coffee but here are some that you now know. Feel free to share or leave a comment below on other myths that you know of!
